Restylane Treatment

Restylane filler was approved for cosmetic use in people over the age of 21 by the FDA in 2003. As one of the most trusted brands of dermal fillers, its use in nonsurgical cosmetic procedures remains exceedingly popular.

What is Restylane?

Restylane is a dermal filler treatment that’s meant to reduce lines and wrinkles, and to also bring volume and fullness to specific parts of the face. It is made up of a gel-like substance built on a base of hyaluronic acid that is injected under the skin. This treatment is mostly intended for use on the face, specifically, areas such as cheeks, under the eyes and around the mouth, but can be applied to other areas of the body as well.

How does Restylane work?

Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in our bodies that helps produce collagen. As we age, this process slows down, allowing wrinkles to form and skin to sag.

With a small needle, Restylane filler is injected under the skin where it bonds to increase volume. Depending on the procedure, these injections can take between 5 and 30 minutes to complete. The full effect of your Restylane treatment takes about a week to notice, but results start to appear almost immediately.

What’s the difference between Juvéderm, Belotero & Restylane?

Juvéderm, Belotero and Restylane are the three brands of dermal fillers offered at Burlington Medical Aesthetics. All three options are made from hyaluronic acid. The difference in these three face fillers is that they are designed for treating particular areas.

Like Juvéderm and Belotero, Restylane is good for mid-depth wrinkles and creases; however, Restylane is best known for being good at treating tear troughs (dark circles under the eyes) and lips.

Restylane FAQs

What areas are commonly treated by Restylane?

Restylane injections are a common cosmetic procedure that can be applied to various areas of the face. The 3 most common sites people target with Restylane® are:

  • Cheeks
  • Lips/nose
  • Tear troughs (dark circles under the eyes)

What is the standard procedure like?

When undergoing Restylane treatment, the patient is placed on an exam table, usually in a sitting or upright position. Treatment areas are mapped and then cleaned with a non-alcoholic solution to maintain sterility. To prevent bleeding or bruising, the physician will often apply pressure around the target site as the injection is administered. The amount/type of wrinkles determines how many injections are needed.

Is Restylane treatment painful?

Restylane injections are administered using a small needle. As such, there is potential for a minor amount of discomfort. Some Restylane® products also contain lidocaine, which helps combat any associated pain during the treatment.

How long is the average session?

Restylane treatment sessions vary from patient to patient, but typically last between 5 and 30 minutes.

How safe is Restylane treatment?

Restylane is a hyaluronic acid-based product, a substance that is naturally produced by our bodies. As such, most people above the age of 21 are candidates for treatment. Restylane treatment is considered safe by the medical community and was approved for cosmetic use by the FDA in 2003.

As with any medically prescribed substance, it is important to discuss any concerns you may have with a trained health practitioner.

What are the main benefits of Restylane?

The main benefit to Restylane® treatment is that it reduces the appearance of wrinkles and creases in the facial area. It is especially effective at treating dark circles under the eyes, known as tear troughs.

Should I expect any side effects?

Any medical procedure has risks. The most common side effect reported by patients is slight swelling and redness around injection sites. It’s important that you consult with your family doctor and/or a trained dermatologist to assess any potential risks considering your own medical history.

How quickly can I see results?

The effects of Restylane injections are usually noticeable almost immediately. Full results tend to be visible within a week.

What should I expect in terms of recovery time?

In general, there is very little, if any, recovery time associated with a standard Restylane injection. If you’ve received multiple injections at once, it may be advisable to avoid strenuous activity for a day. It’s also recommended to avoid direct, prolonged exposure to the sun immediately after treatment.

How often should appointments be booked?

Restylane injections are a temporary solution that last approximately 6 to 18 months. As effects wear off and depending on user physiology, we recommend that you consult with our beauty care specialists to determine when another injection should be considered.

How much per procedure?

Burlington Medical Aesthetics provides cosmetic Restylane treatments that are offered at comparable price points. For more information on pricing and payment options, contact our beauty care specialists today.
