Radiesse Treatment
Radiesse was approved for cosmetic use by the FDA in 2006. It is the first dermal filler to be FDA-approved for both the face as well as hands.
What is Radiesse?
Radiesse is a dermal filler treatment that’s meant to reduce lines and wrinkles, and to also bring volume and fullness to specific parts of the face. It is made of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) gel microspheres that once injected, stimulates naturally-occurring collagen in the skin. This treatment is mostly intended for use on the face to address wrinkles or folds, but can also be applied to the back of the hands.
How does Radiesse work?
Radiesse stimulates the naturally-occurring collagen that our skin produces using calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) gel microspheres. As we age, collagen production slows down, allowing wrinkles to form and skin to sag.
With a small needle, Radiesse is injected under the skin, and depending on the procedure, these injections can take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete. Expect the full effect of your Radiesse treatment to be visible within a week.
What’s the difference between Juvéderm, Belotero, Restylane & Radiesse?
Juvéderm, Belotero, Restylane and Radiesse are the four brands of dermal fillers offered at Burlington Medical Aesthetics. While three of these options are made from hyaluronic acid, Radiesse uses what are known as calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) gel microspheres to stimulate collagen production. Each of these face fillers are designed for treating particular areas.
Radiesse is useful for wrinkles and folds, but can be used on any part of the face. Radiesse is also known for use on the back of the hands.

What areas are commonly treated by Radiesse?
Radiesse® injections are a common cosmetic procedure that can be applied to various areas of the face. The 3 most common sites people target with Radiesse® are:

What is the standard procedure like?
When undergoing Radiesse treatment, the patient is placed on an exam table, usually in a sitting or upright position. Treatment areas are mapped and then cleaned with a non-alcoholic solution to maintain sterility.
To prevent bleeding or bruising, the physician will often apply pressure around the target site as the injection is administered. The amount/type of wrinkles determines how many injections are needed.
Is Radiesse treatment painful?
Radiesse injections are administered using a small needle. As such, there is potential for a minor amount of discomfort. Radiesse can also be paired with lidocaine, which helps combat any associated pain during the treatment.
How long is the average session?
Radiesse treatment sessions vary from patient to patient, but typically last between 15 and 30 minutes.
How safe is Radiesse treatment?
